SIEMASU CLUB

Siemasu Club is more than just a coffee subscription, we are building a community for you coffee people out there <33 Club will give you the chance to expand your understanding of coffee. As a member, you will get to try two new coffees every month !!

  • This month, both coffees in the Siemasu Club Box come from the same origin and the same washing station, the historic Kiaguthu station in Nyeri’s Othaya district. Operating since 1964 and receiving cherries from around 480 smallholders farming on volcanic soils between the Chinga and Rwarai rivers, Kiaguthu is part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, a producer-owned system known for technical discipline and consistently clean coffees.

From that same mixed varieties of Ruiru 11, SL28 and SL34 grown above 1,700 m, we selected two different process expressions: washed-fermented and traditional natural.

The natural lot bends the same fruit genetics into a fuller, tropical-leaning register where mango, papaya and ripe blackberry lingers. It is still remarkably clean for a natural, with polished texture and no ferment haze. The washed lot is crisp and articulate: high-toned acidity, a clean linear structure, and a red-plum–like fruit expression with a precise, glassy finish.

Side by side, these two lots make the process variable visible: same station, same varieties, same altitude — two very different sensory outcomes.

  • We recommend letting the coffees rest for at least two weeks from roast date.

For brewing natural kenyan, aim for quick extractions around 2:30 min using water at 92–94 °C. Keep the brew ratio around 1:15-1:16 and brew with 4–5 pulses for the most balanced and nuanced cup. And for washed kenyan, aim for a bit more slower brew around 3 minutes using water at 95-97 °C. You can try to push the extraction a bit more to 1:16-1:18 ratio and brew with 2-3 pulses.

Exploring coffee is at the heart of what we do. Each month, we dive into the nuances of origin, variety, and process—whether by uncovering contrasts within a single region, or taking a deep dive into fermentation techniques.

With Siemasu Club, we invite you to slow down and engage with coffee on a deeper level. It’s about more than just taste, it’s about understanding, appreciating, and elevating every cup. By doing this we are expanding the understanding of what coffee is.
