  • PROCESSING:

This fresh and elegant coffee comes from the Shyira washing station, located at an elevation of 1,850 meters in the mountains of Nyabihu, Rwanda. The high altitude, cool mountain climate, and volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for cultivating expressive and vibrant coffees.

The coffee is washed processed, highlighting its cleanliness, structure, and balanced sweetness. Ripe Red Bourbon cherries are hand-picked, fermented, washed with clean mountain water, and dried on raised beds in the sun for three weeks.

    HISTORY:

Shyira is the highest-altitude washing station in Rwanda, established in 2017 and managed by Muraho Trading Co. Although the station is small, its impact is significant—both in terms of quality, community, and sustainable development.

The cool conditions, volcanic soil, and high-altitude microclimate produce coffees often compared to Kenyan profiles, while maintaining a distinctly Rwandan identity. Muraho’s investment in farmer training and seedling programs has tripled production in recent years, demonstrating how investing in people and land yields real results.

The waterfalls cascading down the mountain slopes, the Gicice River, and the volcanoes that are home to mountain gorillas create a striking landscape around Shyira, symbolizing its ongoing growth and potential.
