PROCESSING:
This delicate and floral and fruit-forward lot comes from Mr. Tadese Teko in the Gedeb district of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, cultivated at altitudes of 1,780–2,100 meters above sea level. The region’s high elevation, fertile soils, and diverse microclimates are renowned for producing some of Ethiopia’s most expressive coffees.
This coffee is washed processed, a traditional method in Ethiopia that highlights clarity and floral aromatics. Ripe cherries are handpicked and depulped the same day, then fermented for 8–12 hours in open-air tanks. After fermentation, the beans are thoroughly washed in fresh water channels before being dried for 5–15 days on raised beds.
The result is a clean and nuanced cup, with peach-tea sweetness, nectarine acidity, and a lingering finish of apple blossom—a graceful and elegant expression of Yirgacheffe terroir.
HISTORY:
Mr. Tadese Teko is the producer behind this lot, farming 8 hectares of land in Shale village, near Worka town in the Gedeo Zone. This is unusually large by local standards, where the average farm is about 4 hectares. Coffee farming is Tadese’s livelihood, allowing him to support his nine children and their education.
Like most farmers in the area, Tadese uses organic methods, applying natural fertilizers made from composted waste, and avoids chemical inputs. During harvest, many smallholders, including Tadese, also work at nearby washing stations to supplement their income. His coffee is usually delivered to local stations, but due to its exceptional quality, this lot was selected and separated as part of the Single Farmer Project.
The Single Farmer Project, launched by Café Imports in 2012, was designed to create transparency and recognition for Ethiopian producers by bringing truly farm-traceable lots to market. For Tadese, having his name attached to the coffee is both an honor and a validation of years of dedication and hard work.
Through this project, coffees like Peach Paradise highlight not only the uniqueness of Ethiopia’s terroir but also the stories of individual farmers, making each cup a direct connection between grower and drinker.
