Rwanda Rugali Natural – This vibrant and fruity coffee comes from the Rugali washing station, located in Rwanda’s Western Province at an altitude of 1,550 meters near Lake Kivu. The region’s high elevation and volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for growing high-quality Arabica beans. Rugali coffee is processed using the natural method, where ripe coffee cherries are handpicked and laid out to dry under the sun on raised beds. The cherries dry whole for up to 30 days, during which they absorb sugars from the fruit pulp and develop a complex flavor profile. This method requires careful monitoring and frequent turning to ensure controlled fermentation and consistent quality. The result is a rich and juicy coffee with notes of pineapple, green melon, apricot, and floral undertones.

    HISTORY:

The Rugali washing station is part of Muraho Trading Co, a key player in Rwanda’s specialty coffee sector. Rugali was among the first stations to receive permission to export naturally processed coffee, a significant milestone in Rwandan coffee production. The station works closely with hundreds of smallholder farmers, offering training, better compensation, and support for sustainable farming practices. This community-driven model enhances both the farmers’ livelihoods and the quality of the coffee. Rugali coffee represents the modern face of Rwandan coffee culture, a blend of traditional craftsmanship, innovative processing, and a deep connection to the land and its people. Every cup is a tribute to Rwanda’s nature and the skilled hands that cultivated it.
