THE FARM & FARMER
Mr. Mengeche Derso farms 15 hectares in the highlands of Gedeo Zone, an area renowned for producing high-quality Yirgacheffe coffees. At 62 years old, he has spent his entire life farming in the region and works alongside four of his twelve children on the farm.
The farm sits at around 2300 m.a.s.l., where the high elevation and local climate create ideal conditions for producing distinctive Ethiopian coffee. The family uses natural fertilizers, including animal manure and plant material, to enrich the soil.
SINGLE FARMER PROJECT
This coffee is part of the Single Farmer Project by Cafe Imports, created to support Ethiopian producers with a marketplace for traceable, farm-specific coffees. The project focuses on transparency and building long-term relationships between farmers, exporters and roasters.
For us, this means being able to highlight the individual producer behind the coffee, in this case, Mr. Mengeche Derso.
