This vibrant microlot comes from the Karindundu washing station, located near Karatina town in Kenya’s renowned Nyeri region, at 1,770 meters above sea level. The volcanic soils and cool mountain climate create ideal conditions for producing the structured, fruit-forward coffees for which this region is famous.

This coffee is fully washed, following Kenya’s traditional process. Ripe cherries are handpicked, depulped the same day, and fermented overnight. After fermentation, the beans are washed clean and undergo a unique soaking phase, which enhances acidity and flavor clarity. The coffee is then carefully dried on raised beds under the sun until it reaches optimal moisture.

The result is a bright and crisp cup with white currant sweetness, a refreshing lime acidity and aftertaste of a crisp cranberry.

    HISTORY:

The Karindundu washing station serves over 500 smallholder farmers, each contributing cherries from small plots averaging 0.5 acres. Farmers typically cultivate a mix of coffee, macadamia, bananas, and maize around their homes. Coffee cherries are delivered fresh to the station, where the experienced team at Karindundu oversees the sorting and processing.

Located in the lower foothills of Mount Kenya, Nyeri has long been the heart of Kenya’s specialty coffee production. Rich volcanic soil, abundant fresh mountain water, and consistent high altitudes have made this region world-famous for producing intensely flavored, fruit-driven coffees.

Karindundu factory plays an essential role in supporting local farmers, providing agronomy advice such as pruning, composting, and fertilizer use, while operating a demonstration plot for community education. Thanks to this cooperative effort, Karindundu coffees consistently showcase the vibrancy, structure, and clarity that define Kenyan coffee excellence.
