PROCESSING
This Geisha is produced exclusively in the Glenmalure section of Ngila Estate, dedicated to specialty coffee production. Fully ripe cherries are hand-picked and meticulously hand-sorted before pulping. The coffee is then fermented as parchment for approximately 12 hours, thoroughly washed, and transferred to raised drying beds.
Drying takes 8–13 days, depending on weather conditions, with no mechanical dryers used throughout the process. The slow, traditional washed method preserves the Geisha variety's floral aromatics, refined acidity, and remarkable clarity, resulting in a clean and expressive cup.
HISTORY
Ngila Estate lies at 1,500–1,600 metres on the edge of the cloud forests surrounding Tanzania's iconic Ngorongoro Crater. The estate borders a 50-hectare protected forest corridor, allowing elephants, antelope, leopards, wild boars, and other native wildlife to continue their natural migration routes. Reforestation projects along the nearby Ngila River help protect the surrounding ecosystem and prevent soil erosion.
Coffee production at Ngila remains deeply people-focused. Around 100 permanent employees, many with more than three decades of experience, care for the estate throughout the year, while more than 250 seasonal workers join during harvest. The Glenmalure block represents the estate's commitment to exceptional specialty coffee, combining meticulous hand processing with one of Tanzania's most unique and biodiverse growing environments.
